The Newest, Cutest Baby Animals from the World's Zoos & Aquariums
In late October, UK’s Paignton Zoo revealed the exciting news that they had welcomed a male baby orang-utan. Mother and baby have been off-show to visitors whilst they settle in and bond but now they both can be seen by visitors in their Ape House.
The baby was born to mother Chinta, a 32-year-old Bornean orang-utan, and father Wousan who is 14 years old, on 24 October 2022.

Omaha, Neb. (Dec. 6, 2022) – Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium proudly announces the birth of four Cheetah cubs on November 4. 2022. The four cubs were born to mother Clio and father Refu at the Lee G. Simmons Wildlife Safari Park.
“These cubs are a great example of the collaboration benefits among zoos,” said Dr. Jason Herrick, Vice President of Conservation and Animal Health for Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. “Not long ago, cheetahs were considered one of the more difficult species to breed in zoos. Over the last couple of decades, the members of the National Cheetah Breeding Center Coalition, including our Wildlife Safari Park, have worked together to really figure out how to breed cheetahs.”
This tiny kitten was born to Mako and Talullah, Greensboro Science Center’s (North Carolina) fishing cat pair, on November 5, 2022. This is the fourth litter and third kitten born to them at the GSC. We will be announcing the name and sex of the kitten soon, so stay tuned for that!
And the newborn elephant at Rotterdam Zoo is named… Maxi! This son of Faya and Fahim has been named after his grandfather Maximus. The little one is doing very well. After a short period in the delivery room, he was able to venture outside every day if weather permitted. Stones, branches, water, everything is new to him and is being tested while mother and grandmother keep an eye on things. His young uncle Radjik is also very excited to play with him!

TOLEDO, Ohio, December 1, 2022 – The Toledo Zoo is thrilled to announce the birth of twin Polar bear cubs. The cubs’ parents are 24-year-old female, Crystal, and 18-year-old male, Nuka.
In March 2022, the Toledo Zoo announced the addition of Nuka after the Association of Zoos and Aquarium’s Species Survival Program (SSP) issued a breeding recommendation for Crystal in hopes of mating to sustain this endangered species.
Keepers at Whipsnade Zoo create winter wonderland for Asian elephant herd
A baby elephant at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo has enjoyed her first taste of Christmas after keepers created a woody winter wonderland for the youngster to explore – officially beginning the countdown to Christmas at the UK’s largest zoo.
In the 270th anniversary year, the Schönbrunn Zoo was able to look forward to numerous special offspring. In addition to the arctic wolves, the capybaras and the zebras, the king and rockhopper penguins and the maned seals also provided for offspring. Even the extremely rare Mhorr gazelle, which is threatened with extinction, had two young in 2022. “Two more squirrel monkeys were born in the last few weeks – so they are our latest offspring. Our breeding highlights of the year are certainly the young orangutans, giraffes and now, once again, the koalas," says zoo director Stephan Hering-Hagenbeck.
Yep. He’s still perfect. The whole world has fallen in love with Mahale and Kucheza, after catching a glimpse of their emotional reunion. Chimpanzees in AZA-accredited institutions like Sedgwick County Zoo receive the highest level of care to meet their physical, emotional, and social needs – including the life-saving decision to deliver Kucheza via emergency C-section.
All of the animals in their care serve as important ambassadors for their species. Mahale and Kucheza have reminded us all that chimpanzees are smart, charismatic, and amazing animals. And they need our help! Small actions – like recycling your old cell phones and using only sustainably-sourced (certified) palm oil and paper products – can help save chimpanzees like Mahale and Kucheza in the wild.

Taronga Zoo is delighted to announce the arrival of two, five-month-old adorable Dingo pups. The two pups will be making their public debut these summer school holidays, where guests can meet the duo at a brand-new Dingo Keeper Talk or in a specially curated behind-the-scenes Dingo encounter.
The two Dingoes, one male and one female, have both been given Indigenous names from the region they were born. The male has been named Kep Kep which means ‘sweet’, or ‘sugar’ in Wathawurrung language of Victoria, and the female has been named ‘Warada’ which means ‘beautiful’ in Dharug language. The word waratah, which is the floral emblem for the state of New South Wales is derived from the Indigenous word Warada.
