Trick question – nothing! This little guy was born at the Everland Zoo in South Korea in September of 2008. Nocturnal hunters, fennec foxes detect tasty insects and small rodents with their ridiculously oversized ears.

What a cutie
How can I get one. Looks like a lot of fun. -
Cutest. Thing. EVER.
-
yeah, they’re cute… til you hear the noise they make.
fennec foxes shriek. or yowl. or scream or wail. call it what you want, it can be quite awful.
ok so not all their noises are that bad, but sweet jesus, some of the sounds that erupt from this little ball of fur are disturbing. -
Wow those things are cool! How small are they? This may seem like a weird questions but can you get one as a pet? haha

If only they could speak! Looks so expressive you wonder what they are thinking.
-
Note the eerie blue glow in the third picture. The blue glow does not appear in the other picutures, indicating the creature has control over it. A dead giveaway for an alien infant. Note also Nelle’s comment. Clearly she is suffering minor injuries from weak sonic attacks. Its sonic powers will stronger, and its blue glow will grow brighter as it matures. Soon it will be able to shatter glass with its screams, and microwave food with its glow. Extreme caution is advised.
-
I was going to say that this one is too cute for his own good, but then a couple of those comments have me scared. Maybe the shrieking is Nature’s way of balancing out that cute so we don’t overdose.
-
I’m speechless.
-
I love those ears!
-
Wow,weird looking creature! I’ve never seen one before, but I’ve seen something similar. They have a skunky odor to them when we saw them in a zoo, something I didn’t expect.
-
they look soo soo cute!!! kisses to them
-
if my mother saw it she’d be thinking about how many it’d take to make her a coat. Cute little bugger though
-
do you have a job in new jersey, for us for dell computers, please send it to my home.16 central ave,lakewood,n,j.08701-thank you, sincerely, leahkatz
-
Looks like a Chiuaua, I think.
-
They make excellent pets. I’ve had 2 over the years and a neat thing about them is that they love kids. They’re also super smart (sly like a fox…). The biggest problem is that they are mostly nocturnal and sleep through most of the day. But at nightfall they will play with reckless abandon.
They will groom themselves, just like cats. As far as noise goes, I have never seen a creature with such a wide range of sounds. When they are upset, they will have this loud shriek-like bark, but otherwise their sounds are very pleasant and expressive. You will be amazed at how they celebrate your return after a day away fron home:like a dog on speed-it’s hilarious and touching too… -
too stinkin cute.
-
He is soooo cute! I mean, WOW!
-
I don’t think I’ve seen anything so lovely for a long time. I think I’ll have two of those for my birthday, please! What a little gremlin!
-
“awwwww” that was the first thing i said so cutee.
-
Nothing is cuter than a fennec fox
-
The more I see these guys in videos around the net, the more I’m thinking they’d make a really great pet.
-
Aaawwwww it’s so cute! Everyone I sent this to thinks it’s too cute! I was reading about them in my literacy workshop class and it says you can have it as a pet, but it depends on the state you live in, and laws that prohibit you from having one as a pet. They have a rank odor and make shrieking noises. I’d want one as a pet too
-
I’m going to get a fennec fox once i move out of my parents house (I’M STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL I’M NOT ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT IS 25 AND STILL LIVE WITH THERE PARENTS) I’ve done all my research and I’m confident about these. Also if you need to check the laws regarding these little big-eared creature, here is the link: http://www.bornfreeusa.org/b4a2_exotic_animals_summary.php *read carefully they might say potential dangerous animals and fennec foxes are not dangerous. Still you should check to see your local police station and ask about it.
-
But the noises sound really funny/interesting from what I hear. Kind of like a growling sometimes.
-
I agree. Nothing is more cute. Great blog!
-

-
I wanted one, but they only live in South America && Africa. And to buy them here it would be 1,000 dollars.
-
I had my doubts, but nope, that is a cute one.
-
There are a few points one should consider before keeping wild animals as companions
* remember puppy mills, if they become popular, this will happen with these animals as well
*think of all the unwanted, already domesticated animals in the world that are destroyed by the millions because people don’t adopt them
*those non-adopted animals are cute too
*being cute is not enough of a reason to want a companion animal -
OMG !!!!!

You can’t beat Fennec Foxes for cuteness, they are such amazing animals. I volunteer at a zoo not on this site (Drusillas Park Zoo) and have photos of a few good Zooborns, including Fennec Foxes and was wondering how to submit things to this site? To see if my photos are good enough and what animals we have at the zoo please visit http://animal.photoblog.co.uk/
-
cuter than the Fennec Fox, is the Sand Kitten.
-
aww! i hope i can get one. if you had one, what would you name it? just curious…haha
-
you are an idiot!
-
True true, but it’s probably an adaptation to being so small. Because of their size they can be vulnerable to predators, so they might make those noises to scare away other organisms that might hurt them or eat them. I know that you might have gotten bored with my comment, but you know, my teacher taught me to think for myself, so instinct tells me to show it, just for Ms.Russell. And take this in, I’m only 10 years old! ;B Aren’t I so cool?
-
yes yes you can have them as a pet
-
I need to have this in poster form!
-
Awwww it’s so cute!! Reminds me of Gizmo from the Gremlins!
-
A fennec fox is a wild animal and can be incredibly shy. You need a proper license to own one in most places, and even if you don’t need a license in your area, you should take the proper classes before trying to adopt one. There are plenty in zoos already because people couldn’t handle caring for one. They can NOT be kept in an apartment or condo because of the loud noises. Regardless, even when you CAN own a wild animal, that doesn’t mean that you should rush out and buy one. Make sure your fox comes from a certified breeder, not from the wild. They are not currently listed as endangered, but they are hunted aggressively in some countries and are now rare in some parts of Africa.
-
They are cute but hard to take care of from wat i heard.
-
I think I like you.
-
as soon as i get my own apartment/house, im getting one of these as a pet
-

Well some humans I know make horrible bleeting noises, so I think I’d rather the fennec, met a few at the Adelaide zoo, real nice looking guys. And intelligent. At least they aren’t in a race to see who’s company can ruin this planet first.

Animals are such agreeable friends – they ask no questions; they pass no criticisms.
-
Just go to the desert, or, just look on craigslist for fennec foxs puppys, oh, I WANT ONE TO!
-
They are pretty expensive but if you google “fennec fox for sale” plenty of results will show, however they might not be in your area but you can have them shipped which doesn’t cost much.
-
Do not purchase a fennec fox as a pet. They are nocturnal, often bite, and are very difficult to house train. If let outside, they are quick to run away and can dig under almost any fence in no time flat. Long story short, these are wild animals, even when raised in captivity, and prove to be extraordinarily challenging animals to care for.
-
IT’S SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Except you don’t know how to use apostrophes or spell simple words like “entire.” Good job.
-
KISS IT
-
i want one two
-
If I saw your mother . I’d be wondering how many coats I could make.
j.k. hahaha -
So cute im goona go out in the wild and catch one! Ill call him fluffy!
-
Soooooo cute
-
I know how tempting it is to want to get something so incredibly adorable but, try to restrain yourself. I found out the hard way that wild animals are wild partly because of their specialized needs (special diet and environment). I ended up losing 2 chameleons because I put my curiosity before the animals welfare. Now I know better. These little Fennec foxes are supposed to be fragile. Maybe volunteering at a zoo would be better.
-
I totally agree with Andrew. These are very cute, don’t get me wrong on that, but they ARE wild animals. And wild animals should stay wild, and not be kept as a pet! You can go on nature hikes, to learn more about them, or you could go to the library and get books about them.
But please don’t take them into your home as a pet!
Let them live free, and wild. -
All the animals that are considered pets now were once wild animals. Just referring back to everyone who said you shouldn’t have one since they’re wild animals.
-
i love them there cute
-
OMG THERE ABSOLUTLY ADORABLE they are like your own little dog and cat mixed did you know that they hiss, snarl, purrr, growl, bark, and play fetch. They are such beautiful creatures. You could get them as pets it’s marvelous I want two soooo bad.
-
You are an idiot. This is the worse logic in the universe.
-
No, Nina, you should not check with your local police station to see of you may legally own one. You should not try to own one in the first place. You don’t get it. You want to be close to baby foxes? Get the credentials to work in a zoo. That is the ONLY place anyone should be able to even come close to such an animal. And even then, I think zoos are also a bad, selfish idea and often terrible for the animals that end up incarcerated within them. Key word here: “selfish”. Let it go, Nina. You gotta let it go because you have no idea what you are talking about.
-
…Which is exactly why neither you nor anyone should ever own one. Fennec foxes, like baby squirrels and newborn lorises, should not be “owned.” They weren’t built for that, and if you try it you will almost certainly end up killing them. Enjoy them in photos. Enjoy them in videos. Watch from afar. You don’t need to touch or to smell or to “own.”
-
Thank you for contributing to the myth that every animal that is cute should also be owned. You’ve satisfied your urge to own— congratulations. And the foxes didn’t die while in your possession? Fantastic. Let’s all adopt them and see how quickly they die! I can’t wait. Oh, the misery that will ensue. Congratulations.
-
