The Newest, Cutest Baby Animals from the World's Zoos & Aquariums
Yesterday, the National Zoo discovered two brand new clouded leopard babies at the zoo's Conservation and Research Center.

The cubs are the first of their kind to be born at the zoo in 16 years, and hand-raising is crucial to ensure their survival. Parents Hannibal and Jao Chu were imported from Thailand last year and are suspected to have mated several months ago.
I seriously just went blind. The cuteness is just too much to bear!
TOO CUTE for words!! Look at that pink nose!!!
i too suspect that the parents have mated!
Best post on this site, ever.
What little darlings. I love the eyes tight shut!
Why is hand-raising crucial for their survival?
These have to be the tiniest big cats I’ve ever seen. I think I may have died of cute :o)
Suspected to have mated? How else did they get there?
Perhaps they haven’t ruled out “immaculate conception”
So cute! The article in the Washington Post said that the mother can sometimes accidentally or purposely kill the baby, so they must be hand-raised.
Wow, they are TOOOOOO cute. I am glad the keepers found them early enough to take over…
Wow, they are so little!
Accidentally or purposely kill the baby huh? Is there another way in which she could do it? I’m intrigued…
OMIGOD!
They are so sweet I just can’t stop licking the computer monitor screen!!!
Infanticide is a prevalent issue with clouded leopards. I believe it happens even more frequently when the mom has more than one cub. With the difficulty in getting these guys to mate (they are also known for killing their mates), I don’t think anyone would take the chance of losing the precious cubs. Ultimately, it’d be nice to let the mom raise them. But the risk is just too high.
Oh, and the new pictures of the two of them- ADORABLE!! Thanks, ZooBorns!
So stinkin’ cute! And tiny!!
arrr!!!!!
Nebelparder Babies – süß bis zum Umfallen!
Im National Zoo in Washington wurden zwei Nebelparder geboren. Ein süßer Erfolg für den Artenschutz – Bilder ahoi!
and then it grows up and eats you
Adam, I think the point of mentioning both was to be clear that it could have been either way. Some animals kill their babies on purpose, for several reasons, where as some don’t typically do that, but may make mistakes that lead to the death of their young. Andie was trying to say that even if this animal does not practice infanticide (which they may), she could still accidentally kill the baby. It was just to make it clear that it didn’t have to be one or the other.
Omg! I want one! Too bad it’d eat the pets I already have…
too cute for words to describe! i wish i knew president obama personally so we can bust in the zoo and hold em!

View these magnificent cats at maturity – the pattern of their coats is unreal. They are so beautiful. To think that they are poached and almost extinct is very sad. A great website to see them climb is the FONZ “watching clouded leopards jump”.
give me
now
They are adorable and I thoroughly understand why they must be hand raised but being a Mom I feel a little sadness for their Mom.

Just think: in less than one year, these things will be perfectly capable and likely inclined to rip their human bottle-feeders into flesh confetti.
