Research showing altruistic behavior in chimps (and other animals) isn’t recent. Frans de Waal published a whole book about it decades ago.
I’m not sure why the popular press pays so little attention to anything except “nature, red in tooth and claw.” I think we humans are trying a bit too hard to be sure we’re “special”! -

Quixote. I agree. We spend our time trying to see how different we are from other animals. We’d probably learn a lot more by looking at how similar we are.
