The Newest, Cutest Baby Animals from the World's Zoos & Aquariums
ZooBorns is thrilled to feature its first baby hyena, three month old Kai from the Denver Zoo. Contrary to popular myths about hyenas' bad attitudes, they are actually extremely intelligent and affectionate animals. While little hyenas might look like puppies, they are actually more closely related to cats.

HYENAS ROCK! Not only are they intelligent and affectionate, they are also superb hunters, and are actually statistically more successful at taking down prey as a pack than lions are. Thank you for featuring such a beautiful hyena baby. They have such an undeserved bad reputation. I am currently working as a zookeeper’s apprentice with a pair of wonderful, wily spotted hyenas. I take any chance I can get to educate others about hyenas and preach about how truly awesome they are. 😉
It does look a lot like a dog. And it’s already exhausted mom (or is that dad) in the upper photo!
Oh well, either way Kai looks very sweet and very intelligent. I hope we will see more photos as Kai grows up.

Who knew that even baby hyenas can be cute?
To answer your question, the adult hyena in the photos is Kai’s mother Ngozi. The upper pics were taken when he was about a month old and the ones near the bottom were taken on one of his first days out on exhbit at about 13 weeks old. He is growing fast and is very sweet to the keepers.
The mum hyena is almost as cute as the baby in the first picture.
