The Newest, Cutest Baby Animals from the World's Zoos & Aquariums

Posted in , ,

It’s a boy!  This little guy – a lesser anteater or tamandua – was born just days ago to mom, Cypress, at Discovery Cove, in Orlando, Florida.  The youngster will hitch a ride on mom’s back for the first part of his life until he’s able to walk and find food on his own.  Tamanduas are native to the forests of Mexico to South America.  They use their sharp claws and 16-inch-long tongue (41 cm) to eat up to 9,000 ants in a single day.

Yes, cute in an odd way.
Discovery Cove is awesome. It’s not cheap, but for the extra price you get a limited crowd size, which means you can enjoy the park and animals without feeling overwhelmed during the busy Florida tourist season.

He sorta looks seal-like with those legs… So know I know what a baby ant-eater type critter looks like. This site is absolutely fabulous; never fails to cheer me up if I’m feeling blue.

The photos are great. The first and last look like the tamanduas are posing for their portrait. Their personality comes through!

Is there ever going to be a NAME??
It’s nine years later and ( as many others have stated) We are reading the book with our children, and it tells us to visit this site for his name… Still waiting folks! At least something. Tell us he died, tell us he has a name tell us he’s a grandpa, something!
