If you are looking for information about the ZooBorns books, published this fall by Simon & Schuster, please click here for the all ages version, and here for the young children's version. The survey below is now closed and the books are available wherever books are sold!

Exciting news! ZooBorns will be publishing two books with Simon and Schuster to  be released later this year. One book is for adults and the other is a children's book. We are looking for your help in selecting the cover for the adult book. Please let us know your favorite from the options below:

Ocelot Otters

Sorry, but i don’t like any of them for a front cover. Not cute enough. Sorry, What about baby sloths, they were cute, and funny looking. Baby Elephant at Melbourne Zoo he’s pretty cute.

I liked the baby gibbon: http://bit.ly/NbEqp

It should be the ocelot – the same as the website banner.

I agree with Christine, there. I’m not impressed with any of them. Baby sloths is a good idea!

As much as I adore ocelittles, of the four images there, I think the otters do the best job of conveying the newborn portion of the ZooBorns portmanteau word. (Look at me using my mad dictionary skillz!) I can see where Deedee is coming from re: tying the banner and the book together, but since you’re trying to reach out to people who aren’t necessarily already fans of the site, I don’t think “brand recognition” is as big a draw in this case.

I prefer the anteater for the following reasons:
    (1) Fennec foxes are already fairly popular
    (2) So are cat images.
So the anteater and otters are distinctive images I find this site particularly notable for.
I guess otters are also fairly popular, making the anteater most distinctive. Also, my friends all thought the otters looked like ugly rats. I disagreed, I think they’re both quite cute, but I suspect general opinion favors cuteness of the first image. If you conclude I’m wrong, I say go for the otters.

Anteater. It stands out, this is the adult book and as one of them I like the fact this site introduces me to the unfamiliar.

I also thought the sloths were much cuter

The marmoset on the finger was also really adorable.

The baby primates you’ve featured (the gibbon, for example, and the orangutan with the tousled hair) are incredibly cute!
Of the PICTURES HERE, I think the fennec fox is cutest, but I don’t like the layout of the cover because it seems very unbalanced. To be honest, the layout comes across as rather cheap-looking (very “I made this on my computer at home”)

I chose the ocelet because I think it’s the kind of cute that would draw in buyers; the fennex fox looks too much like a chihuahua (at least in this angle).
My personal favorite was the sleeping otters, I felt so good looking at that. But I don’t think it says “buy me!”
And I agree – non-human primates would work well. That gibbon you featured recently rocked! Are there property rights involved in what pictures you can use?

How can anyone choose, they are all so darn cute!
I think the Zooborns title looks better at the top of the screen rather than at the bottom as it is in the Fennec photo.
I couldn’t decide, but I would say anteater or otters – both incredibly cute photos, and both different looking, and what I love about the website – showing that the unexpected animals can be ridiculously cute too.

I voted for the otters, because that picture emphasizes the plural nature of ZooBorns. 🙂 (And they’re adorable!)

    So difficult to choose!

I like all the pictures but I vote for the anteater because it’s unusual and interesting and I think it would attract attention.

I love the otters, I really love them, and they might well have the best zooborns ‘feel’ … but I think the anteater works the best for the cover, with the whole composition of the thing; the way it has a curve to it. Also, it’s probably more interesting – I think the cover with it is more engaging and the least generic. The otters look more like a kid’s abc book or something to me?

    Anteater OBVIOUSLY.

From an (amateur) artist’s perspective, I’d definitely say that the anteater works best with your cover layout, both for its colors and its composition.

  21. Kyra Avatar

Definitely anteater, or second choice Otter. PLEASE don’t do the ocelot!

  22. nurby Avatar

Love the anteater. So very excited for the both books! 🙂

  23. nurby Avatar

… and the ocelot is cute, but looks like he is screaming or in discomfort in that picture.

It was the anteater for me… cats are so over done so the ocelot is out. The unique draws attention and while the otters and the fennic are very sweet and cute the anteater has the ‘it’s kinda cute but what is it?’ pick up and check out the book draw…

Two votes for the anteater, and I agree that a) the ocelot has been on every calendar cover since the year 1342, and b) the layout as it is now can take more work, otherwise even the cute baby animals won’t look as good.

Anteater cover is intesting and has an attractive color scheme and layout. Congrats on the book(s), ZB.

Definitely ANTEATER. Zooborns has turned me on to how incredibly adorable anteaters are, especially baby anteaters. I think this cover would stand out. The other animals are very cute too, but anteater is my favorite.

The anteater looks interesting but not cutesy-poo. His bemused expression is more fitting for a book for adults than the others which, frankly, look like the covers of every kid’s book about zoo animals ever published.

Found it very hard to choose, but i chose the otters…

I went with the Tamandua(Anteater) because I think they are one of the cutest animals around. I love going to my local zoo because they have a couple of them in the rainforest building here.

Gotta go with the anteater, just because it’s so unusual. All the rest are beautiful as well, but have gotten plenty of exposure as it is. You can always find cute kitties, but an anteater is a find!

I think it’s amazing you managed to get permission to reprint those images for profit! How long did all the legal wrangling take?

Congratulations on your books! What ever cover is chosen, your children’s book will be an added plus to any school library. (Please have your book listed with a Lexile score as many schools now purchase library books by this reading number.)
Cute sells no matter the age!! I vote the Fennec. Visually recognizable family (Canidae) to many, but still the mystery factor to those that don’t know specific species.

Ocelot, hands down. Considering that people tend to love kittens and cubs over most other animals that would have the most popular appeal, IMHO.

Trying to be helpful here: I second Liz’s comment that the font/general design makes the book look cheap, like something you’d find in the discount bin at a book remainders store. I would be inclined to discount it if I happened upon it. I hope you’ll reconsider because it might help sales.
I voted otter. I do like that recent gibbon pic, though!

You cant do the fox again because that was the cover of your other book. I like the ocelot.
