The Newest, Cutest Baby Animals from the World's Zoos & Aquariums

Posted in , ,

It's baby prairie dog season at the Nuremberg Zoo in Germany and, lucky for us, photographer dark-ness spent two days there capturing prarie dogs doing what they do best: eating and greeting one another. As we mentioned in a previous post, prairie dogs live in "towns" of tens of thousands or more and touch noses to say hello.

They look like the baby ground squirrels in my front yard! I have a mom with a litter (is that the right word?) of 6 pups. The pups came out on Wednesday (16 June), but never strayed too far from the tunnel entry. They all tried various bits of plant–seeing if the stuff was edible, I guess. They also snuffled around the dirt with their noses, as well as rolling in it and chasing each other.

They’re so sweet! I just love rodents. (I have 4 pet rats.)

Oh my gosh after seeing these pictures I feel awful about the one I hit with my car the other day :(. I just couldn’t stop. Cute little things though as babies. They carry the plague here, though
