The Newest, Cutest Baby Animals from the World's Zoos & Aquariums

Posted in , ,

Just last week we brought you the story of Kaladi, the little orphan Sea Otter at Alaska SeaLife Center. Well this week we bring you another dose of truly unbearably cute baby otter, once again a rescued orphan being raised at the the SeaLife Center.

Meet Tazo. Only a few weeks old, he enjoys socializing with other otters, playing in a tote bag full of ice and toys, and eating clams. Not a bad day if you’re an otter. Speaking of which, do not miss Tazo’s fussy noises in the video at the bottom. Adorable.

Is that other baby otter in the video Kaladi?

I was wondering that, too. Another question. Was the little guy getting a style and blow dry at the end?

Yeah. You can hear them call the other otter Kaladi, and the video description is “Tazo’s day is filled with eating, sleeping, grooming, and lots of playtime with Kaladi.”

The blow dry is a grooming session for Tazo. It’s important to get bits of deliciousness out of his tummy/table area as well as comforting for him as typically a mother otter would do something similar.

It’s been building since Kit… I am completely hooked on baby sea otters. Help!!! Actually, y’all help a lot, because I don’t live anywhere near a facility that has sea otters (or the sea), so you’re the source for my fix!

All otters are terminally cute, whether they are sea otters, river otters or those giant otters from South America. They really know how to enjoy life and have fun. I loved that video of the mama otter teaching her pup how to swim.

Combing the little otter babies’ thick fur is just the best thing for the little ones. They do need all that stimulation to make them happy and calm. When Inbegan taking care of infant kittens I knew I had to replace their missing mother’s rough tongue, grooming away. First I tried a toothbrush but I found the best thing to use was a small flea comb. It was easier to control and the little ones loved it! It’s so fun to groom the little ones–it’s very satisfying for both furry little baby and great big human “mommy.”

You know, on a hot July day like this, I really could do with a bag full of ice right about now…

OOhhh they are going to have some major problems with them as they get older! Imprinting otters on humans is never a good thing. They can become rather aggressive and dangerous as they get older. I speak from experience in working with an otter raised this way. No one benefits.

Yeah. Your right, Zigg. Better to let them die…
