Recently, Houston Zoo keepers gave Baylor and Tupelo a big kiddie pool. Now that Baylor weighs more than 1100 pounds and Tupelo weighs more than 600 pounds, the small, inflatable pools do not last longer than 5 minutes without getting popped. The babies now get a family size pool which is 120 inches in length and holds both calves. It is a lot more durable. This size pool lasts for about 5 uses before it has to be replaced. Playing in the pool is a fun enrichment activity for the babies and the pool is given to them when the weather allows.

That’s so cute! The big one is just having a blast and the little one is trying to lie down but there’s just no room. So he gets out and scrambles over to Baylor and it’s like he says, “move over and make room for me!”. When Tupelo sees Baylor starting to move, he makes a bee-line and runs back to his spot in the pool. It’s just too cute to see him flaying around trying to get himself straightened up after he hurls his baby elephant self into the pool.

Really cute. I wonder if a lifeboat would be strong enough for them? Maybe not deep enough, though.

I can see why that new pool will be replaced after 5 uses!! Those 2 boys are just having way too much fun in that pool! Before too much longer, the ellie keepers will be moving these 2 ellie kids to the REAL POOL outdoors where they can really have fun and learn how to swim. Baby ellies are so much fun to watch! I watch the 4 recent baby ellies on the SDZ elliecam, and they are always fun to watch when they chase each other and have wrestling matches in their huge yard!
