Two weeks ago, the mother of this baby Opossum was found killed by a passing car. The individual who found the mother knew enough to check around the mother and in her pouch (due to time of year) for babies. There was only one baby, and they brought her in to The Virginia Living Museum in Newport News, Virginia. She will join the animals at the museum and could someday be used in the museum's educational live animal programs with school children. The woman in the picture is Virginia Living Museum’s Vet Tech – Linda Addison.

Some people act like opossums are disgusting little rodents, but they’re actually marsupials and they’re damn cute, if you ask me!

So cute! Poor momma, though. It’s so sad. Luckily whoever found them was smart and looked for babies! What a little cutie!

Kudos to the person who rescued the baby, and to The Virginia Living Museum staff for caring for it. And thanks to Zooborns for sharing this!

I can’t believe some people think opossums are ugly… Just look at that baby, she’s adorable! I especially like her little paws, it looks like she’s wearing fingerless gloves.

These photos don’t show the teeth, which are the main ugly factor.

They’re not ugly teeth– there are just 50 of them. They do tend to gape at you as a sign to leave them alone, but they don’t bite if you do leave them alone.

One thing Zooborn does is educate us readers. I wouldn’t have thought to check for a pouch in a dead animal. Now I will. Kudos Zooborns for adding important information while providing squee-worthy photographs. 🙂
