Bottle-feeding A Baby Silver Leaf Monkey

A one-week-old Silver Leaf monkey is benefiting from a little human care at the San Diego Zoo. The female named "Thai" was born on July 3 to a first-time mother. Unfortunately Thai's mother was not holding the newborn in a way that allowed her to nurse naturally, so animal care staff intervened and are bottle-feeding the baby several times each day. The small, orange monkey continues to spend time with her family between feedings so that social bonds remain strong.

    Look at those ears! Haha! Very cute 🙂 I find it very cool that they are assisting in nursing, but haven’t completely taken the baby away from the group – I take it the social structure is important (not to mention teaching her how to be a monkey!) and it’s very cool they are still working to keep that connection!

    I am currently rearing an orphaned common langur baby which is just over a month old. I have previously had good results with slightly older babies and we have 11 juveniles in residence.
    This langur finds it difficult to digest the usual formula of soya milk for human babies. We have always found this more successful than cows milk based formulas. She will drink but then vomits the milk up and has had medicine for this. Currently she is at the vet under a re hydration treatment.
    I wonder if you have had success rearing langurs with any other substitutes for langur milk.
    I am anxious for an early reply as you know babies monkeys can loose condition very quickly. Thank you Jo

    Why, as a supposed professional, ask such a question here in the comment section if an article like this? If your really are responsible for the care of all these baby langurs then why not call the zoo directly and ask to speak with the care team in the primate area at the zoo?? As you can see no one is going to answer you here because this is not the website of the people who have this monkey
