The UK's Twycross Zoo's Cuscus keepers were lucky enough to capture these amazing photos when the baby Cuscus, approximately 2 months old, ventured out of mums pouch! This marsupial, native to New Guinea and the surrounding islands, is nocturnal, though native New Guineans describe seeing Ground CusCus sunning themselves in the ealry morning hours! Cuscus are known in the wild to dwell on the ground and in burrows part of the time, while spending nights foraging in the treetops.

Wowie kazowie! I never even heard of these critters before. The mom is adorable, in a possum sort of way, so baby will be too once there’s some fur attached.

Even naked babies need a good cleaning!

So do you pronounce it the same as couscous or is it like cuss-cuss? The love mama has for her baby is adorable!

WOW!!! This is the cutest, most adorable little baby cuscus that I have seen! I didn’t know that cuscuses are marsupials, so I just learned something about these little animals! Looks like momma has a little boy from seeing the pics that the zoo put into Zooborns. Couldn’t see his head because his head is buried inside the pouch drinking his mom’s milk. Plus, I think that this is the first cuscus that’s been born this year which is pretty rare. You all at Twycross take very good care of that little baby cuscus, and I’m sure that his mom will do the same thing! BTW, what’s the mom’s and dad’s name? That didn’t get mentioned. Keep us updated about this little guy! Chari Mercier, St. Pete, FL 🙂
