The Scandinavian Wildlife Park of Djursland has been raising Siku, a one month old Polar Bear cub, by hand since his mother was unable to provide enough milk for him. Since birth, the cub has more than doubled in weight, and Zoo officials say little Siku is doing fine. Park Manager Frank Vigh-Larsen says the tiny cub was just two days old by the time it became clear he would not survive without intervention. Three keepers give Siku around the clock care to ensure he continues to grow and develop healthily.

I don’t believe half of these reports that zookeepers “had” to take over care of babies.. I think they just want to.

Sally- I know what you mean. I’d be finding any excuse to take over for the mom. Irresistable!

Why would they want to give their time, their life and their love to an animal that soon will be taken away from them. That animal small and beautiful will soon be able to kill them with swipe of his paw. The do it because some pets were not born to be moms just like some people were not meant to be moms.

Saw Siku on the TODAY show this morning. His eyes are open so he’s even cuter.
