UPDATE! Lion Cub Sisters at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay Get Their Names

Florida's Busch Gardens Tampa recently welcomed three Lion cubs to the
park, one male and two females (who are unrelated to the male), as previously covered HERE on ZooBorns. They can be identified by their size — the two smaller cubs are the sisters, while the slightly larger cub is the male. After a week-long poll, 6,000 Busch Gardens Tampa Facebook
fans voted to name the two Lion cub sisters. The winning picks for the
three-month-old cubs are Shaba, meaning “brazen”, and Shtuko, meaning “twitch”.

Visitors can now see the antics of these three adorable Lion cubs at the zoo's Edge of Africa exhibit at various times throughout the day and week. All three cubs are very playful and love to run, chase, and stalk each other, as can be seen in the video at the bottom of this page. But after all that playtime, they are just as good
at taking a cat nap!

    I’m confused. The text says “two unrelated females.” In the very next sentence, it says “The two smaller cubs are sisters.” I’m not an animal expert but most sisters are considered related. Please enlighten me. Whatever the answer, they are beautiful.

    I wondered the exact same thing. I followed the link to the earlier post, and based on it and the three uses of the word “sister” in this post, I’m sure the females are sisters. So, “unrelated” must mean “unrelated to the male” — that is, “one male and two unrelated females” means “one male and two females who aren’t related to the male.” I agree that the way it’s worded is misleading (to say the least).
    I wonder why they don’t need a name for the male. If that’s explained in either post, I missed it. Maybe the male arrived already named?

    Now that they have altered the wording in the text, my post does not make sense. I am glad you interpreted the phrase as I did.
    I, too, wondered why they were not naming the male.
