Not one, but two adorable Red Kangaroo joeys have started to emerge from the security of their mother’s pouch just in time for the spring school holidays.

The two joeys, one female and one male were born to first-time mothers Yoolah and Pebbles are estimated to be around seven months old.

Both the joeys which are yet to be named are growing in both size and confidence every day, with the female joey being slightly more adventurous than the male joey at the moment.

These two new arrivals bring the total number of Red Kangaroos at Taronga’s Backyard to Bush to a total of nine individuals.

These individuals are also the first Red Kangaroo joeys to be born at Taronga Zoo Sydney in five years.

Both joeys are starting to spend more time out of the pouch and exploring and hopping around their habitat, making the spring school holidays the perfect time to catch a glimpse of them whilst they are still very small enough to be carried in their mums pouch!

These two joeys are not the only new arrivals at Backyard to Bush, they also join Wadu, an adorable eight-month-old Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat joey.

It’s hilarious how the joey can’t quite fit back into the pouch but doesn’t care — simply leaves one huge long leg sticking out. And mother kangaroo doesn’t care either, even though it’s like she has a fifth limb growing out of her stomach. Joeys must be quite flexible to be comfortable in such a contorted position.
