Busch Gardens Tampa Bay welcomed two endangered baby
    red-ruffed lemurs on April 21.
The babies are the first lemurs to be born at
Jambo Junction, home to the parks’ animal ambassadors, since parents Maditra and
Bozeny arrived as babies three years ago.

The sex of the babies has yet to be determined, but they are developing well overall, according to trainers. They are getting braver each day, and exploring their habitat under the watchful eye of Mom and Dad. They currently weigh about 300 grams or a little more than half a pound; lemurs average about 80 grams, or .17 of a pound, at birth. They grow to be about 8 to 10 pounds.

The Bronx Zoo recently announced two very special additions to its family – a new baby brown collared lemur in the zoo’s Madagascar! exhibit and a baby silver leaf langur in JungleWorld.  Both recently born at WCS’s Bronx Zoo, and both are special species as there are less than 50 of each in captivity world wide.

hard to spot in all this fur, but this little lemur is clinging tight to Mom!

The silver leaf langur baby has a striking orange color in comparison to its parents’ silver coats and will continue to stand out until its fur changes color somewhere between three to five months of age.

Germany's Allwetter Zoo in Muenster has a rare treat for visitors.  Born March 30th, twin ring-tailed lemurs can be seen nursing and sticking close to mom "Mobi." Ring-tailed lemurs are threatened in their native home of Madagascar by habitat destruction and poaching for bushmeat (who could eat a lemur?!).

Meet Ares, a brand new baby Coquerel's sifaka at the Wildlife Conservation Society's Bronx Zoo. Like all lemurs, Coquerel's sifaka is native only to the island of Madagascar where they are endangered due to habitat destruction. With the birth of Ares, the total population of Coquerel's sifakas in accredited zoos rises to 51.

In this adorable video, a baby Coquerel’s Sifaka lemur born at the St. Louis Zoo January 23rd, tries to go for a climb. In the second half of the video, look for the baby’s tiny head poking out from within mom’s fur.

These endangered lemurs have a matriarchal society where females eat first and pick their lemur boyfriends.

A baby Ring-tail Lemur takes in its surroundings from the safety of mom's back last week at Trotter's World in the United Kingdom. Highly social animals, large numbers of Ring-tails will huddle together and intertwine their limbs and tails for warmth, creating a "lemur ball." Photos courtesy of Fi in Eden.

In June the Bronx Zoo welcomed a happy and healthy baby Coquerel's Sifaka Lemur and these pictures were taken in July. Sifakas get their name from their unmistakable "shih-fak" alarm call which starts as a low growl and ends with a loud and abrupt "fak" that can be described as a shrill hiccup.

There’s so much going on at zoo nurseries these days we can barely keep up! Enjoy this collection of outstanding videos from Smithsonian National Zoo and Bronx Zoo.

In a 24-hour-period between July 9 and 10, a clouded leopard cub, a Przewalski’s horse, and a red panda cub
were all born at Smithsonian’s National Zoo’s Conservation and Research
    Center

Looks like the Smithsonian National Zoo is gonna need a bigger bird house!

Black-and-white ruffed lemurs may look like stuffed animals come to life, but they are actually important ambassadors for their critically endangered species, native to Madagascar. These wide-eyed twins were recently born at the Detroit Zoo and serve as a reminder to the desperate conservation needs of their wild relatives. Donations can be made to help protect these adorable little guys via the Lemur Conservation Foundation.

Apenheul Primate Park in the Netherlands is a unique institution where monkeys, apes and other primates are free to wander within the park forming their own natural social groups. All of the pictures below were taken last week by photographer Jean Kern. Just like their fellow primates, humans, mom and baby stick close together.
