The Newest, Cutest Baby Animals from the World's Zoos & Aquariums

Posted in , ,

Rejected by its mother, this tiny Kirk's Dik-Dik is being hand raised by keepers at England's Chester Zoo. Standing just 10 inches tall, the baby is bottle fed five times a day and appears to be doing well. These small antelope are native to Eastern and Southwestern Africa.

CuteOverload! beat you to it, but nice to see even more photos and footage. Man, those legs look almost too spindly to support the weight.

Not much weight for the spindly legs to support!

Too cute! We have those at our zoo, but they’ve never bred – I’d love to see one of the babies in the flesh some day!

Look at those tiny, spindly, wobbly legs! I love the shot of the guy scritching the baby’s head. Wish I could do the same!

Rejected by its mum? Who could reject something so aggressively cute?
I love the shot of it on the keeper’s desk – gives good perspective on exactly how tiny it is.
    I want one!

How large is a fully grown dik dik? The name dik dik is as cute as its look.

Hi there, these pictures are great! They reminded me so much of a dik dik i had the privilege of taking care of last year. i live in kenya and we were at my boyfriends camp in the masai mara when a few masai found the baby abandoned, his umbilical cord was still attached, they said they waited a few hours to make sure they knew his mother was not coming back. He was amazing, we named him kijiti (match stick in kiswahili, because of his match stick like legs) Kiji for short, it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. He would sleep in our bed with us and follow us everywhere. We had to leave him with people at the camp, and after a couple months they called us and said he had passed away. They said he hadn’t learned how to switch from soft foods to grazing foods properly, and stopped eating. I will never forget how sweet and innocent he was. Here is a link to an album of some pictures we took of him http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.4536374006768.190566.1213622204&type=1

I was in Africa last year and saw a bunch of these. They live in the bush to hide, but are real cute.
