The Newest, Cutest Baby Animals from the World's Zoos & Aquariums
On February 18th, the Franklin Park Zoo welcomed the birth of a highly endangered Skeksis
hatchling. This birth marks the first baby for proud parents Aughra and
Fizzgig.
Once plentiful in the Thra Valley and adjacent mountains, Skeksis are
now
extinct in the wild and only ten remain in captivity. Known for their
characteristic whimper, Skeksis are happiest
when feasting on podling essence or when keepers treat them to roast nebrey.

Kinda looks like an old person in a nursing home if you stare at it long enough.
That little fellow looks so much like a skeksis it’s scary. I would have expected more fangs/claws/something, though; I can’t imagine more than one hatchling of a skeksis clutch survives.

Umm, Skeksis aren’t native to Thra and they are happiest when drinking Gelfling essence. They are never infants because they come from the splitting of an urSkek after a purification process by traveling through a beam of sunlight through one of the planetary Crystals onto a reflector. They also have 4 arms, 2 of which are very small and attached behind the shoulder blades. PS It’s spelled Nebrie.

The Planeta Radulka has two suns.Since the Dark Sun’s light looks somewhat similar to the Dark Crystal’s many of the thousands of Skeksis who escaped from urSkeks over the years would land there,searching for the fabled Crystal Castle,and the Interplanetary Police would send them on to Thra until Gelfling agents overthrew the Ancient Empire.
The political situation has altered greatly.
Now Skeksis cannot go to Thra.
Ten have become stranded in a parallel universe where
the Franklin Park picture reveals that its ten resident Skeksis are far more like ordinary birds than the thousands who received permission to remain in Radulka because they are an endangered species.
Although their babies are born with beaks like birds
each has FOUR skinny arms and a reptilian tail.
And then the babies begin to walk…and talk.
They’re smart enough to go to school…although the Gelfling Rebels’ Association has protested having SKEKSIS in the schools the school supervisors who see young Skeksis learning to read and write agree that these creatures SHOULD attend school despite their
penchants for eating earthworms alive and flashing new dragonteeth and requiring really strict supervision to safeguard the Gelfling children in the same school.
I think it’s because the assume everyone has seen the Dark Crystal by now….. LOL!
But Aughra and Fizzgig? Ewww, that would be a bizarre cross…
