The Newest, Cutest Baby Animals from the World's Zoos & Aquariums

Posted in , ,

In late May, two concerned citizens discovered a three day old Sea Otter alone on the beach in Kodiak, Alaska. After obvserving her for several hours and seeing no sign of a parent, they contacted the US Fish and Wildlife Service, who in turn determined that they baby was an orphan and transferred the tiny ball of fluff to the Alaska SeaLife Center's rehabilitation program. Named Kaladi, the young otter has thrived, spending her first month eating, playing, crawling, and cuddling and on June 25th, she was transferred to her new home at Point Defiance Zoo in Washington. In our professional opinion as baby-animaloligsts, the video below is absolutely priceless.

    Will he be released?

Unfortunately Kaladi was only three days old when she was rescued so she does not know how to be a wild otter and would not survive if released. However, she’ll have the next best thing, a comfortable life at the Point Defiance Zoo where she can help educate the public about the need to protect these precious creatures in the wild.

Oh, so sweet! And who’s gonna teach him how to swim? I heard their mother usually teach it to them.

What a sweet lil baby–and being cared for by an obviously accomplished great big human dad-mom. So glad the tiny one was discovered by observant and knowledgeable people. These little ones are so appealing in their appearance and behavior.

so awful to think that people regularly hunt and kill them for fur coats :(((.

Good lady, this gentleman zoologist would give his “eye teeth” to get to chat with you personally. When is the last time you heard that expression? Many animals; especially pets, just lie around the house “manufacturing cuteness” We may compare notes about any realm you’d care to suggest. Might we start with the glories of the Big Bang itself? I’m a widowed scientist living on my own modest California ranch surrounded mostly by an island of conservative American thinkers. Those are rareities in this state, believe me! Stay well and serene, Neal

I saw Kaladi at the SeaLife Center June 7, 2010 and last weekend at the Point Defiance Zoo! She is very active and quite the smart little girl (able to stack objects and climb up on them)! She has 4 other friends, including an older otter that was rescued by the SeaLife center from the Valdez oil spill. Yay for success stories!!!
